EYFS Curriculum

We follow the EYFS statutory framework and use the Early Years Outcomes to measure progress. Children learn early literacy and numeracy skills through a mixture of play and adult-led activities. Our Early Years curriculum follows the interests of our children, as well as carefully planned learning opportunities, to ensure that our children make the most of their time in Early Years and are well-prepared for Key Stage One. The wonderful thing about Early Years is that you never know where children’s interests will go! We learn about everything from tornadoes to tigers to tractors!

We would love to meet you and your child, and spending time with us is the best way to get a feel for our ethos. Please contact the school office to arrange a visit– we look forward to seeing you!

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

Four guiding principles shape our practice in the EYFS at Moorside;

  • Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
  • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
  • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
  • Children develop and learn in different ways at different rates.
Our Intent:  Children will learn to be confident communicators, who enjoy taking risks and are excited about gaining new skills and knowledge.
Implementation:Children are encouraged to follow their own interests and staff facilitate this using their knowledge of the EYFS outcomes.

Activities are planned to make sure that children are exposed to new ideas and gain an understanding of the local and wider community.

Parents are encouraged to be involved with their children’s learning.

A large and exciting outdoor area is resourced to allow children to engage in risky play and solve problems.

Speaking and Listening is at the heart of everything that we do, with extra support put in place for those children who need it.

Children learn to read and write following a systematic phonics programme, they are encouraged and taught to write during play and adult-led activities.

Children are expected to solve problems and be as independent as possible.

Children have dedicated maths sessions, as well as weaving maths through their play.
Impact:Children’s experiences in the EYFS have allowed them to develop resilience and confidence. They will be in a strong position for the transition to Year 1, and they have the necessary reading, writing and mathematical skills to tackle the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
